FMP - Icelandic House (Week 4)

To start off this week I set up vertex painting for my paint. I created some extra loops here and there where I wanted the paint to be. This way I could have a sharp edge to my painting and still have a soft gradient as well.
Here is the result of the assigned materials with vertex painting:
I wanted to start Sculpting wooden beams today but the tablet wasn't working so whilst I waited for the technician I thought I would test out fur as I need to do this early on so I know how to plan around this asset.
The method was using parallel occlusion which you can see here in this video.
The results from yesterday weren't absolutely awful, but I am aiming as close to realism as I can and I feel this approach isn't the way forward. I've considered a few ways of going about it and I've decided to switch out the fur for a different fabric. I still want to keep the same feel to the scene so I searched up a few different types of sofas. I chose this one in the end as it's quite a rough leather and a similar design, shape and colour to the fur sofa.

Now I I've tested that I can start modelling and working out how my assets will come together. I'm working from large main structural assets first and working my way down to smaller assets.

Working out how these stairs work and then modelling them has been mind boggling. The inside of the stairs acts like a ribbon and trying to recreate it well in 3dsMax has been quite the challenge.
As I wanted the back door closed I still wanted the light to come through. I did some research into back doors with windows and came across this one. It's a full windowed door with a frosted glass which I feel is ideal for my scene.
After modelling the two large structural assets I unwrapped all of the assets that are wooden to a tileable wood texture. I want to make all of the beams and wooden assets look worn and hand carved so I will do that in ZBrush later down the line.
